Dr. Jane Bartholomew EdD FHEA
My research interests
With a background in Learning and Teaching, Quality Managing and as Senior Lecturer in Marketing, Business Management and previously, Textile Design, my 27 year experience in Higher Education has afforded my shaping of practices and approaches that primarily benefit students' learning. These experiences have also informed my position as a researcher, completing my Doctorate in Education in 2022; 'How do Students, Lecturers and Managers in Higher Education understand ‘Student Engagement’ and factors impacting Undergraduate Students’ Motivation and Autonomy?'
Since 2023, I have been invited to deliver Papers and Workshops at a number of conferences and have received a number of enquiries from Further and Higher Education Institutions to contribute to their Learning and Teaching Events. Further details about the two key outputs that are of use to institutions, teachers, professionals and managers in Further Education and Higher Education can be viewed on the 'Educational Tools' tab on this website. These include the 'Pedagogy Action Card Game' and 'Bartholomew's Taxonomy of Self - the motivated undergraduate student'.
Due to my research interests, I have run and taught modules across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as part of the Personalisation and Experiential Learning agenda within the Nottingham Business School at Nottingham Trent University. These modules require students to focus on their continued personal, academic and professional development to ensure they prepare well for their future. I also coach and mentor students on an individual basis at all levels to support their transition in and out of HE with a focus on developing their reflective practice, autonomous behaviours and preparedness to embrace their future plans.
I have also worked collaboratively with staff from across the University on a range of business development initiatives and am a member of the Design Thinking and Student as Partners working groups.
Researching the student's experience and ways in which they prefer to learn are pivotal in the development of new pedagogy. Understanding this and how it connects with what motivates today's students provide the fundamental drivers for my research projects.
Recent Conference papers on related themes were delivered at RAISE 2023, AdvanceHE's Annual Learning and Teaching Conference 2019,RAISE 2019, RAISE 2017, HEA 2017.
